  • Hatshepsut: The Woman Who Would be Pharoah: Ancient Egypt had several strong female rulers. However, most ruled as regents for young children. One female who ruled in her own right was Queen Hatshepsut, daughter of one pharaoh, wife to another, and aunt to a third. Hatshepsut took the throne of Egypt and made it her own. This presentation will cover the major aspects of her rise to power, control of that power and her withdrawal from political control.
  • Steamboats on the Red River: While the Red River of the South, which runs from Texas to the Mississippi River, is no longer a shipping conduit in Grayson County, steamboats once journeyed this far west. First, however, the Great Raft of the Red River had to be removed to allow shallow-keeled boats into a river that never had a predictable amount of water. Learn the fascinating history of the time when people and goods traveled on side wheelers on the Red River in this image-heavy and informative presentation.
