Grayson College Awarded Skills Development Fund COVID-19 Special Initiative Grant

The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) has awarded Grayson College’s Center for Workplace Learning $287,000 from its Skills Development Fund COVID-19 Special Initiative program. TWC announced the program’s creation on April 24, 2020 with a pledge to award up to $10 million statewide to meet the training needs in essential industries including healthcare.

Grayson College will use this funding to provide training at no cost to 119 students in one of four certificate programs leading to a career as an essential healthcare professional. Training will begin on June 15, 2020 with the Patient Care Technician and Certified Nurse Aide programs and be followed by Pharmacy Technician on June 16 and Phlebotomy Technician on June 29. Additional sections of Patient Care Technician and Certified Nurse Aide training programs are planned for June 29 and July 27 respectively.

“Grayson College is thrilled to once again partner with the Texas Workforce Commission, our local Workforce Development Board here in Texoma, the Texoma Council of Governments, and our local ISDs to provide no-cost, high-value training to our community,” said Dr. Jeremy McMillen, President of Grayson College. “We are proud of our 55-year history of training those we rely on the most to keep us safe, well, and healthy. This funding allows us to make vital training in these high-demand occupations available to even more students, and we are thankful for TWC’s leadership during this time,” added McMillen.

Prospective students interested in these no-cost training programs leading to employment in a high-demand healthcare career, can learn more at grayson.edu/cwl/available courses or by calling the Center for Workplace Learning at (903) 463-8765. Those receiving the full tuition scholarship will receive job search assistance as a complement to the training.
